Fuel sellers in Nigeria have lowered the price of petrol starting today, Tuesday. This change comes as the country pauses business activities for a public holiday declared by the federal government to honor former president Muhammadu Buhari. Abubakar Maigandi, the head of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), said this in an interview with Daily Post on Monday.
He explained that the price drop happened after a meeting in Abuja, where IPMAN members reacted to the Dangote Refinery lowering its fuel price from N840 to N820 per litre.
Because of this, many fuel sellers agreed to reduce their prices from Tuesday.
Maigandi said that in Abuja and nearby areas, petrol will now sell between N900 and N920 per litre instead of the previous N905 to N945.
He added that in other parts of the country, prices will be between N860 and N890.
“Nigerians are happy because fuel prices have been going down in the past weeks,” he said.
This price cut also happens as the nation marks a public holiday to honor Buhari, who died in London on Sunday, July 14, 2025. His burial is set for Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.
IPMAN had already mentioned last week that prices might go down. This follows Dangote Refinery’s earlier announcement of a drop in its selling price from N840 to N820 per litre.
