Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at his residence in Kano State. Obasanjo was welcomed by Kwankwaso in the company of the NDC governorship candidate in Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
The visit was confirmed in a statement issued by Kwankwaso's media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, who described the meeting as one marked by cordial discussions and warm interactions between the two political figures.
The statement, however, did not disclose the details of the private meeting.
Kwankwaso previously served as Nigeria's Minister of Defence during Obasanjo's second term in office from 2003 to 2007, and both men have maintained a longstanding political relationship.
The meeting has intensified speculation over possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid reports of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation among opposition parties.
NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi is widely regarded as a close political ally of Obasanjo, who publicly endorsed him during the 2023 presidential election.
