The Federal Government has set March, 2024 as a final and new dateline for opening of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund, NELFund, popularly called students loan portal for eligible students to check in. Executive Secretary of the NELFund, Dr Akintunde Sawyerr, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria this morning in Abuja urging eligible students to register on the link provided to access the fund. 

The President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Mohammed Ibrahim has appealed to the Federal Government (FG) to release the withheld 4 months salaries of its members. Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed that workers in public universities should be paid their withheld salaries which was halted by the previous administration’s ‘No work, No Pay’ policy as result of the industrial strike embarked by universities’ unions in 2022.

The Federal Government (FG) has commenced the payment of withheld salaries of public university lecturers under the aegis the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Multiple sources within the academic sector confirmed the development on Monday, stating that several members of the Union have began receiving credit alerts of 2 months withheld salary out of the outstanding 8 months.

The Osun State Government as of 19th February 2024 officially opened a portal for two weeks to the public for immediate recruitment of eligible teachers in Public Primary and Secondary Schools. This step is in the quest to enhance quality education in the state. Prospective applicants are advised to visit the official recruitment portal at http://jobportal.osunstate.gov.ng to access the application form, and a non-refundable fee of Two Thousand Naira (2,000) only in the course of the process.

The human right lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) and another lawyer as dragged the Attorney General of the Federation, the Nigerian Education Minister, the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, the Attorneys General of the 36 States of the Federation, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to court over the education of the Nigerian child.
