As issues bordering on the IPPIS payment system has continued unabated, the Joint Senate and House of Reps Committee on Education has yesterday declared that they will end interruption of academic activities in this administration. The joint committee took the decision during the 2024 budget defence when the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Prof. Chris Maiyaki appeared before it. 

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the schedule for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This was made known on Wednesday in a statement issued by Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser which stated that the main UTME will be held from April 19 to 29, 2024.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said that dearth in varsities was due to the surge in the exit of lecturers out of Nigeria and irregularities around the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, IPPIS.

The Federal Government’s amnesty programme has sent out another batch of 20 more ex-militants from the Niger Delta region for a compulsory five-week mandatory training. When the training is completed, it will give the trainees a certification and type rating as licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers. According to the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, a 12-month on-the-job training (OJT) will precede this experience after which the trainees will graduate from the class course phase of the program.

The Federal Government of Nigeria is planning on establishing the National Commission for Almajirai and Out-of-School Children to enhance skill and self reliant.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the era of industrial actions in the nation’s academia environment has come to an end as the administration’s Students Loans Scheme commences January next year. President Tinubu gave the assurance on Monday during the 29^th edition of the annual Nigerian Economic Summit, anchored by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. President Tinubu had on June 12 signed the Students Loan (Access to Higher Education) Bill into law.
