The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire had yesterday disclosed that the Federal government has approved the release of N10billion for the development of a local vaccine in Nigeria. Mr. Ehanire disclosed this during the media briefing of the Presidential task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 yesterday in Abuja saying though the county is making effort to procure the vaccine when is available.

Governors of the 36 States of the Federation will be holding their 23rd virtual meeting to address the rising cases of COVID-19 infections and work out an appropriate response. The meeting which is scheduled to hold virtually on Wednesday is expected to provide a platform for the governors to deliberate and agree on practical steps to contain further spread of the disease.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire had yesterday disclosed that the Nigerian government will receive 10million doses of coronavirus vaccine by March. Although the minister did not state which brand of the vaccine would be deployed to Nigeria, he confirmed that the said 10million would be added to the 100,000 Pfizer vaccine that was earlier stated.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Ghebreyesus has said that a WHO team in China is working with producers of China’s COVID-19 vaccines for potential emergency use listings. “I’m pleased that a WHO team is in China currently working with producers of the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines.
