The country's sporting federations require extensive reforms for effective sports development, according to Minister of Sports Development John Enoh, who also expressed regret to Nigerians for the dismal performance at the Olympics in Paris. He continued by saying that in order to achieve the intended outcomes in the future, the various federations needed to have mechanisms and institutions in place to select the greatest athletes to represent the nation.

Nigerian sprint icon, Tobi Amusan has failed to make it to the final of the Women’s 100m hurdles at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This came as she finished in third position clocking a time of 12.55s which was also not enough to see her qualify as one of the best losers. The disappointing performance which saw Tobi Amusan finish a lowly ninth overall was a huge blow for the nation, which had pinned its hopes on her exceptional performance.
Meanwhile, the women’s 110m hurdles semi-finals were a dramatic spectacle, with only 0.01 seconds separating the top two finishers.

World champion, Tobi Amusan after breaking the record has qualified for the 100-metre hurdles semi-finals in the ongoing 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. Amusan led the group of eight athletes with 12.49 seconds, followed by America’s Alaysha Johnson with 12.61 and Jamaica’s then Janeek Brown qualified with 12.84 seconds.
