Tyronne Ebuehi may have joined Benfica after his contract with ADO Den Haag ended, but the Dutch club are reaping massively from the Nigerian – on two fronts. Firstly, ADO receives a training fee from Benfica, which amounts to almost two and a half tons. They are entitled to money from FIFA, now that the right-back is part of Nigeria’s world cup quest.
Ebuehi is the second ADO player after Mauk Weber (1934) to feature at a World Cup.
For every day that Ebuehi is active at the World Cup, ADO receives a fixed daily allowance of more than 7,200 euros.
The counter starts running two weeks before the World Cup.
If Nigeria reaches the final of the world cup in Russia, the compensation for ADO can eventually run into millions!
“So hopefully Nigeria wins the World Cup“, says football manager Jeffrey van As.
“This is what we ultimately have to do,” continues Van As.
“In the winter we could have sold Ty. We thought: if we keep it, we can still get that World Cup premium in addition to the training allowance. When he got injured a while ago, we were afraid that he would not make it to the World Cup, then our plan had fallen apart. But it worked out just fine. “
Van As finds it unfortunate that Ebuehi will exhibits his skills in the Portuguese competition in the coming years.
“If a top club like Benfica dares to monitor Ebuehi for five years, then that says something about its qualities. I also found him one of the better right backs of the Netherlands last season, but apparently the top clubs from the Eredivisie did not believe in him.
“As far as I am concerned, that was wrong. It’s a shame that a talented boy like him is already going abroad.”
