Sheikh Gumi has embarked on his expedition to meet with bandit commanders in their den to negotiate the release of Kidnapped schoolboys in Kagara, Niger state.
The Islamic cleric has met with, Dogo Gide, one of the top commanders of the criminal gang operating in Dutsen Magaji forest for negotiation.
Recall both staff and students from Kagara Government Secondary school were kidnapped early morning on Wednesday, however, a source amongst the delegation of Sheikh Gumi disclosed the kidnapped victim is on the verge of being released.
Gumi has taken it upon himself to champion negotiation with bandit leaders in the forest where he met with bandits in Makarfi, Kaduna state last month where he proposed an amnesty for the bandits, proposal governors like El-Rufa'i of Kaduna state rejected and now in Dutsen Magaji of Niger state forest this month for a similar mission.
According to the source, the Niger state government who earlier ruled out the option of negotiation has made a u-turn and sent a delegation to negotiate on its behalf to dialogue with the criminals.
Earlier before the abduction of the students in Niger state, passengers in a bus on transit were abducted but were later released in good health upon payment of ransom that is yet to be disclosed.
During the visit of the cleric, an entire community was shown to him reduced to noting from military bombardment with corps dumped in wells.
Another source revealed that the bandits were ready to release their victims as soon as their conditions are met.
However, such requirements were not revealed to Gumi while at the forest in Tegina, Rafi LGA of Niger state.
The Islamic cleric is on a mission of self volunteer on behalf of parents and the community through engaging the gang leaders to embrace dialogue.
