The Federal Government has inaugurated a Joint Implementation Committee to oversee the training and certification of one million Nigerians in digital literacy and emerging technology skills, as part of efforts to fast-track the nation's digital transformation agenda. The committee on Tuesday in Abuja was chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federal (SGF), George Akume, who was represented by Ibrahim Kana, Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Office of the SGF.
Speaking at the event, Akume described the inauguration as a major step in the government's drive to expand digital skills nationwide. "This inauguration represents a significant milestone in the Federal Government's deliberate and strategic commitment to deepening national digital literacy, strengthening human capital development, and promoting inclusive digital transformation in line with national development priorities," he said.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the Digital Transformation Agenda, the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategic, and President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, with a target of achieving at least 95 per cent digital literacy by 2030.
Akume explained that although the programme enjoys the support of federal institutions, it is fully funded and implemented by Clergywealth Cooperative Society Limited. He added that the initiative builds on the resolution and Digital Economy meeting held in December 2025, including the adoption of the Future Proof Economy (FPE) model as the national framework for delivering digital literacy.
