The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has granted conditional approval for emergency purposes to the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine produced by the Johnson&Johnson (J&J) medical device company. In a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, the Director-General, NAFDAC, Dr.Mojisola Adeyeye said the approval for the Janssen vaccine was done “after a thorough evaluation” of the product, adding that the agency’s vaccine committee “concluded that the data on the vaccine were robust and met criteria for efficacy, safety and quality”.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a new set of global guidelines for sodium levels contained in over 60 food and beverages categories, saying excessive salt in foods is putting people at great risk of fatal heart disease and strokes. The guideline is aimed at setting a standard for “countries and industry to reduce the sodium content in different categories of processed foods.”

The Federal Government has announced that foreigners who recently traveled to Brazil, India, and Turkey would be denied entry into Nigeria starting from Tuesday 4th May 2021. This was disclosed by the Secretary to the Federation (SGF) and the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID 19, Mr. Boss Mustapha.
