The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against the use of 4 substandard cough syrups such as Promethazine Oral Solution, Magrip N Cold Syrup, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, and Makoff Baby Cough Syrup. The Director-General of NAFDAC, Mojisola Adeyeye stated that the listed products are not registered by the Agency, therefore, they should not be in circulation.
The World Health Organization has revealed that Africa has the highest rate of people dying by suicide in the world. In the statement, the agency said Africa is home to six of the 10 countries with the highest suicide rates globally. Roughly 11 people per 100,000 per year die by suicide in the African region, the WHO said in a statement Thursday, higher than the global average of nine per 100,000 people. It said Africa is home to six of the 10 countries with the highest suicide rates worldwide. “This is due in part to insufficient action to address and prevent the risk factors, including mental health conditions which currently affect 116 million people, up from 53 million in 1990,” read the statement.
The Nigerian Center For Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced 14 deaths in 10 states from suspected cases of yellow fever between January to July. The affected states included Abia (one), Bayelsa (one), Benue (one), Imo (one), Kaduna (one), Katsina (two), Kebbi (one), Taraba (two), Yobe (one), and Zamfara (three). The NCDC stated this via its official website on Sunday.
President Muhammadu Buhari appointed the Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote as the Chairman of the 16-member End Malaria Council (EMC) during the Council’s inauguration on Tuesday at the State House, Abuja. The President said he picked Dangote as chair of the Council because of his track record for supporting initiatives regarding health issues such as polio and primary health care system strengthening.
The number of confirmed cases of monkeypox in Nigeria has risen to 172 in the country. This is according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), which noted that so far, Nigeria has a total of 172 Monkeypox infections and four deaths recorded in 2022. The latest situation report by NCDC, released on Sunday, revealed that over 50 per cent of the cases were recorded among men. NCDC's Week 31 reports indicated the spread has reached 27 states since January. From January 1 to August 7, 2022, NCDCD said four deaths were recorded from four states, Delta (1), Lagos (1), Ondo (1), and Akwa Ibom (1). The report read in part, "60 new suspected cases were reported in Epi Week 31, 2022 (August 1-7, 2022) from 19 states.
The Federal Government Of Nigeria has begun negotiations with the Nigerian Association of Resident doctors over the demands of the doctors. This was disclosed by the publicity secretary of NARD, Dr. Yusuf Alfa.
