Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and “X”, has expressed regret over a series of social media posts directed at U.S. President Donald Trump, admitting that some of his remarks went too far.
The comments follow a week of public tension between the two figures, which escalated shortly after Musk departed from his role in the White House.
The conflict was sparked in part by Musk’s criticism of the president’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” which he claimed would reverse many of the reforms introduced by the now defunct Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Musk formerly headed.
During the dispute, Musk made numerous controversial statements on X, including calls for President Trump’s impeachment and accusations that Trump was ungrateful, despite his support during the 2024 election.
He also alleged that President Trump appeared in documents related to Jeffrey Epstein and warned that the administration’s tariff policies could trigger an economic recession. Many of these posts have since been deleted.
In response, President Trump stated that he had no intention of repairing his relationship with Musk, describing the entrepreneur’s behavior as disrespectful to the office of the presidency.
However, following unrest in Los Angeles linked to immigration raids, Musk resumed expressing support for the Trump administration. This included reposting a statement from Vice President JD Vance regarding the president's commitment to law and order.
He also shared a screenshot of a Truth Social post in which President Trump demanded an apology from California officials over their handling of the protests.
In a recent interview, Vice President Vance remarked that he hoped Musk would figure it out and come back.
“The President is a little frustrated, but he’s been restrained because he doesn’t want to be in some blood feud with Elon Musk. I think if Elon chills out a little bit, everything will be fine.”
On Wednesday morning, Musk followed up with a more direct apology on X, writing: “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”
When asked on Tuesday whether he planned to speak with Musk, President Trump replied: “I haven’t really thought about it. I would imagine he wants to speak to me. I would think so, if I were him, I’d want to speak to me.”
He added: “And maybe he already called… ask him whether or not he’s already called.”
