The Lagos State Council of the National Association of Nigeria and Midwives (NANNM) has announced that it will be embarking on a three-day warning strike from January 10, over the government's failure to meet the association's demands.NANNM in a circular signed by the State Secretary, Oloruntoba Odumosu, with reference NANNM/LS/SEC/VOL.II/148/001, directing its members to embark on the strike.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) stated that no person resident in Nigeria has died as a result of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. This was disclosed to news reporters on Friday in Abuja by the Director-General of NCDC, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa. COVID-19 cases in Nigeria have on Friday soared reaching 1,584 cases with nearly 1000 new infections recorded in Lagos State, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed. The Agency made this known on Saturday, saying Lagos State, the nation's epicentre recorded 906 cases. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers recorded 258 and 217 new cases respectively, while Edo and Oyo States recorded 85 and 50 cases respectively.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the appointment of Dr. Ayoade Alakija as the organization’s Special Envoy for the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator. The ACT-Accelerator partnership is a global program created to provide accelerated development and equitable distribution of vaccines, tests, and treatments. The Director-General, WHO, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus announced Alakija’s appointment in a statement on Thursday.
The Federal Government will today Friday December 10, 2021, begin the administration of booster shots of COVID-19 vaccines. The FG explained that the booster dose will be given to persons fully vaccinated with either two doses of AstraZeneca, Moderna or Pfizer Bio-N-Tech or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine. It is pertinent to reiterate the fact that the Nigerian COVID-19 vaccination programme is science-driven.
