Google has launched Gemini 2.5 Pro, its most powerful AI model yet, designed to improve reasoning, coding, and problem-solving. In a blog post on Thursday, Google highlighted that the new model outperforms its predecessors and leads the LMArena leaderboard, which ranks AI based on human feedback. According to Google, Gemini 2.5 Pro excels in math and science tests like GPQA and AIME 2025, without relying on expensive computational techniques. It also scored 18.8% on Humanity’s Last Exam, a tough AI challenge designed by experts. The model is now available in Google AI Studio and the Gemini app, with plans to launch it on Vertex AI soon. Google also announced upcoming pricing options for businesses that need large-scale AI solutions.
Google’s push for smarter AI comes as it faces stiff competition. OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, continues to dominate the consumer AI space, boasting 700 million monthly users as of March 2025. Meanwhile, China’s DeepSeek is disrupting the industry with affordable, high-performance AI models, challenging U.S. tech giants.
While OpenAI offers free basic features and charges for advanced ones, Google is taking a different approach. Its Gemini Advanced tier, initially exclusive to Google One’s $20/month AI Premium plan, recently made Gemini 2.5 Pro free after just four days—suggesting Google is adapting its strategy to attract more users.
With competition intensifying, Google, OpenAI, and DeepSeek continue to evolve, shaping the future of AI-powered technology.
