On Tuesday night, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bauchi State caucus rejected attempts by APC stakeholders to allow Governor Bala Mohammed to join the party. Shortly after its meeting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, the caucus announced its decision.
On March 31, 2026, the governor reportedly intended to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
However, the anticipated defection was postponed after the governor met with Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, and Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the APC, which fueled rumors that he would be joining the ruling party.
Sama'ila Dahuwa, the chairman of the Bauchi APC caucus and senator for the Bauchi North Senatorial District, told reporters during the caucus meeting on Tuesday night that members had unanimously decided to reject Mohammed's requested admittance into the party.
He stated that the caucus "unequivocally rejects" the action following thorough discussions.
"The caucus firmly holds that his (Kwankwaso) admission into the APC at this time will be detrimental to the party's cohesion, credibility, and electoral prospects in Bauchi State," stated Senator Dahuwa.
Bala Mohammed had indicated that he would defect to the APC or ADC after the PDP's leadership turmoil.
