The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has appointed a former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, as a senior strategic adviser to its Director-General, Jean Kaseya.
This was disclosed by Kaseya, saying, ““Professor Osinbajo brings exceptional experience at the intersection of governance, finance, law, and diplomacy.
“At a time when Africa must act with greater ambition and authority on the future of health, his leadership will be invaluable.
“This appointment reflects Africa CDC’s commitment to mobilizing African leadership of the highest caliber in service of the continent’s health security, sovereignty, and development.”
Similarly, a former president and chairman of the board of directors of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) as Senior Advisor on Strategic Financing.
The agency also named Troy Fitrell as Senior Advisor on International Cooperation, Pierre Delsaux as Senior Advisor on Strategic Partnership, Christoph Benn as Senior Advisor on Debt Swaps.
Kaseya said, “I am delighted to welcome Benedict, Christoph, Troy and Pierre to Africa CDC. Their stature, strategic insight and global reach will strengthen our ability to unlock new financing, deepen high-level partnerships and accelerate Africa’s path toward stronger health security and sovereignty.”
The Africa CDC is a health agency of the African Union established in 2016 to “support public health initiatives of Member States and strengthen the capacity of their public health institutions to detect, prevent, control, and respond quickly and effectively to disease threats.”
