The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has disclosed that over 956 Nigerians were evacuated from Libya in the first quarter of 2025.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Monday by NiDCOM’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, stating that the returnees were airlifted in six batches between January and March 2025, adding that 683 of the returnees were females, 132 males, 87 children, and 54 infants.
The statement advised Nigerians to avoid Libya as a pathway to Europe due to the delicate political situation in the country, as well as avoiding other irregular routes.
Dabiri-Erewa reiterated the Nigerian Government’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of Nigerians at home and abroad and also called for stronger partnership among government agencies, NGOs, the media, and other stakeholders in order to raise awareness regarding the risks associated with irregular migration.
