Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, Rafael Grossi, has announced plans to travel to Tehran within the week to fine-tune the renewed nuclear talks between Iran and the United States. Grossi is expected to land in the Iranian capital come Wednesday, as war mongers have continue to rise tensions over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Contained on his official X handle, the IAEA boss wrote, “Continued engagement and cooperation with the Agency will be essential at a time when diplomatic solutions are urgently needed.”
This is coming on the heel of growing concern over Iran’s alleged lack of cooperation with IAEA inspectors and its continued production of near weapons-grade uranium, which has send shiver down the west and its allies of possible nuclear weapon development.
The U.S. President Donald Trump’s had in year 2015 withdraw from the nuclear deal, and subsequently, in 2018, Iran began rolling back its commitments under the agreement.
Trump recently reignited tensions by threatening military action if Iran fails to limit its nuclear activities.
Despite the burdened history, indirect talks between Iran and the U.S. resumed on Saturday in Muscat, Oman, with both sides calling the discussions “respectful and constructive.”
The next round of the meeting has been penciled for Saturday in Rome.
“Iran, the U.S. and Oman made a corresponding request, and we have given a positive response,” Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed, according to ANSA news agency
