President Bola Tinubu has formally accepted the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election, promising to build on his administration’s reforms and accelerate national development. Speaking in Abuja on Sunday after emerging as the party’s flagbearer, Tinubu described the moment as another milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and expressed gratitude to party members for their continued support.
Reflecting on his emergence as the APC candidate in 2022 and subsequent victory at the polls, the president said he was returning as the party’s standard-bearer with renewed determination.
“I accept, with humility and profound gratitude, the nomination of our great party, the APC, to stand again as its presidential candidate,” Tinubu declared.
The president commended APC leaders, governors, lawmakers, members of the National Working Committee and party supporters for preserving the unity and strength of the ruling party.
He also thanked Nigerians for backing what he described as difficult but necessary reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and strengthening public finances. According to him, his administration has improved revenue generation through tax and fiscal reforms while implementing programmes designed to expand opportunities for citizens.
Highlighting achievements in education, Tinubu said the Nigerian Education Loan Fund had disbursed more than N282 billion to over 1.5 million beneficiaries, fulfilling the administration’s pledge to remove financial barriers to higher education.
On the power sector, he stated that the government had provided 2.5 million electricity meters and launched a N4 trillion bond programme to clear legacy debts owed to power generation and gas companies. He added that electricity generation had at times reached 6,000 megawatts, representing a significant increase from levels inherited by his administration.
The president further defended the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of exchange rates, describing them as critical measures for achieving macroeconomic stability and attracting investment.
Tinubu said the government was investing heavily in infrastructure, including transportation networks, housing, irrigation projects, power facilities and digital connectivity, to drive economic growth and industrialisation.
He noted that major road projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, were designed to provide long-term economic benefits.
While acknowledging the economic difficulties facing many Nigerians, including rising living costs, the president assured citizens that his administration remained focused on delivering sustainable solutions.
Addressing security concerns, Tinubu reaffirmed his government’s commitment to restoring peace across the country and called on the National Assembly to expedite constitutional amendments that would enable the creation of state police.
He said his administration would continue to prioritise industrialisation, food security, energy development, infrastructure expansion and democratic consolidation.
“Our mission remains clear: To build a Nigeria where every life is secure, where enterprise thrives, and where young people find opportunity,” he said.
The president also appealed for national unity, urging Nigerians to work together across political, ethnic and regional divides to advance the country’s progress.
Tinubu pledged to make his government more inclusive and responsive to the needs of citizens, promising to continue serving the nation with commitment and sincerity.
He secured the APC presidential ticket after polling 10,999,162 votes in the party’s nationwide direct primary election, defeating his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo.
