The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has finally selected former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, as his running mate for the forthcoming election. The development was confirmed on Saturday by the immediate past chairman of the ADC in Rivers State, Sampson Leader, during a media chat.

Amaechi had earlier contested the party’s presidential primary but was defeated by the former vice president. Before the exercise, the former Rivers State governor had publicly stated that he did not purchase the ADC presidential nomination form with the intention of eventually accepting a vice-presidential position.

Following the primary election, Amaechi strongly challenged the outcome, amid allegations by some aggrieved party members that the process was manipulated in favour of Atiku.

However, when asked whether Amaechi had agreed to serve as Atiku’s running mate, Sampson Leader responded in the affirmative, saying simply: “yes.” Dailypost
