Four clubs now stand between Plateau United Football Club of and its first ever Nigeria premier league championship. The Peace Boys currently top the Nigerian Professional Football League table with 62 points – 6 points clear of their closest rivals, MFM FC and with just 4 matches to go.
The Kennedy Boboye tutored lads could have the championship in wraps by month end if they can beat relegation-threatened Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club (ABS FC) away at Ilorin on August 20 and then Rivers United at home in Jos, seven days after.
Should the high flying Jos-based club falter in those matches, they still have games against 16th placed Wikki Tourists FC on September 3 in Bauchi and a cracker six day later at home against defending champions, Rangers International of Enugu.
Plateau United would hope to dethrone Rangers long before the two teams meet and make the league’s last fixture for the 2016/17 season a ceremonious formality. A very welcome prospect for football enthusiasts across the Plateau, who will be excited to have the defending champions formally dethroned at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos.
