Football expert, Mark Goldbridge has expressed reservation with Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand for supporting Lamine Yamal to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or for the year. Ferdinand had thrown his weight behind Yamal for the win of this year’s Ballon d’Or award. Accordingly, the Englishman made the observation following Barcelona’s Champions League semi-final first leg that ended in 3-3 draw with Inter Milan on Wednesday.
However, Goldbridge disagreed with Ferdinand, insisting that the likes of Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele are more deserving of the Ballon d’Or for the year ahead of Yamal.
Goldbridge insisted that both players have been better than the Spain winger this term of displaying capacity on the pitch.
Taking to X, Goldbridge said: “Yamal is sensational but the mainstream coverage of him and handing him the Ballon d’Or is so insulting.
“[Barca teammate] Raphinha is having an immense season and so is [Ousmane] Dembele at PSG. Less Rio sensationalism and more realism in the analysis please.”
