The German Football Association (DFB) has announced the appointment of former Bayern Munich Manager Julian Nagelsmann as their new boss. The 36-year-old who replaced Hansi Flick on Friday has been tasked to revive Die Mannschaft after a rough patch ahead of hosting Euro 2024.
Nagelsmann who has signed a deal until the end of next July disclosed to journalists that he hoped to revive and reposition the DFB. According to the 36-year-old "We have a European Championship in our own country — that’s something special. I have a great desire to take on this challenge, A positive atmosphere is important, but it requires a good plan, which can't be as complex as in club football because we simply don't have the same amount of time to study it."
When questioned about reuniting with former Bayern Munich players, the gaffer notioned "Of course, I'm looking forward to seeing the Bayern players again, But I'm also looking forward to meeting players from other clubs I've never met."
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf who confirmed the appointment has described Nagelsmann as “an outstanding coach” and further noted how convinced they are in hiring the 36 years old, “We are convinced (he) will ensure that the national team inspires its fans and that the Euros are also a sporting success.”
Sporting director Rudi Voeller has also called Nagelsmann “an absolute football expert” expressing that he had “proven himself at a very young age for a head coach”.
Voeller took the reins on a “one-off” basis for Germany’s 2-1 win over France in Dortmund but said his main task was to find a permanent successor.
Benjamin Glueck and Sandro Wagner have been appointed as Nagelsmann’s assistants.
