Manchester City FC will play in the next season champions League following the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has thrown away the two years ban on the club from European football.
UEFA suspended the Manchester City FC over offence bordering on financial control since February over the clubs licensing and financial fair play regulation. Meanwhile, the club denied any wrongdoing and appealed the decision of the UEFA at the CAS last month after previously describing the UEFA decision “prejudicial”.
Consequently, after listening to all parties for three days in June, the CAS has thrown into the trash the decision of UEFA on the suspension, which will mean the Man City club if free to participate in the next season Champions League, having secured a second place in the Premier League with a 5-0 win over Brighton last Saturday.
While addressing pressmen shortly after the match, Pep Guardiola said he was confident the ban would be overturned and insisted his side deserved to play in European football’s elite competition. In his statement, while talking to sky sports, “Today we achieved one incredible challenge, which is a qualification for the Champions League mathematically,”
“This is the challenge that is the minimum requirement for this club. And these players have done it for the last six or seven years. He continued, “We deserve to be there because we won it on the pitch. Hopefully, on Monday, UEFA can allow us to play like this team and these players deserve to.”
