Lionel Messi, the sensational football star took the bold step as he wedded his 29 year-old childhood love Antonella Roccuzzo in a private ceremony at his home town Rosario. The wedding was tagged "Wedding of the Century" by local media.
Although it was a different form of celebrity wedding as no fewer than 50 top football stars including Neymar, Sergio Agüero, Luis Suárez, Gerard Piqué and his wife, Colombia’s pop star Shakira were among the about 260 guests in total in attendance.
Messi met Roccuzzo who is the cousin of his best friend Lucas Scaglia in Spain when he was just five years old. The football super star agreed to a conditional contract with Barcelona who accepted to pay for treatment for his growth hormone deficiency at the age of 13.
He maintained his relationship with Antonella which was gracefully and luxuriously sealed with exchange of vows and rings.
Although controversies arose as Messi allegedly did not invite any of his recent coaches including his mentor, Argentina’s legend, Diego Maradona, according to the local press.
The local organizers even stressed that private security firm was contracted to check gatecrashers and unaccredited journalists throughout the event.
