Former Super Eagles forward, Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored twice on Thursday, as Nigeria defeated China 3 - 2 in their first game in the StarSixes World Cup campaign.
Ayegbeni opened the scoring in the 15th minute after slotting past goalkeeper Li Wei after being freed by Garba Lawal. He got his second a few seconds later after Captain Austin Okocha found him with a nicely placed looped pass.
Aiyegbeni then set up Daniel Amokachi for the third goal to make the score line 3 - 0. A late rally by China's Peng Weijun pulled one back for his team after an avoidable error by goalkeeper Peter Rufai.
And with few seconds left to play, the Asians got the second. However, that could not halt the Super Eagles from securing maximum points.
Nigeria faces Italy on Friday night in their second Group B encounter. The Azzurri legends bowed 2-1 to Brazil in their opening encounter.
The StarSixes World Cup is a tournament for retired football legends - Daniel Amokachi, Austin Okocha and Garba Lawal played in the game.
