The United Kingdom’s Labour Party with over 400 seats swept to power early Friday in the country’s general election. Rishi Sunak's Conservatives suffered the worst performance in the party's long history as voters punished them for a cost of living crisis, failing public services, and a series of scandals.
After his Labour Party on Friday surged to a landslide victory, Keir Starmer vowed to rebuild Britain as its next prime minister.
In a triumphant address, Starmer stated, "We did it, Change begins now ... We said we would end the chaos, and we will, we said we would turn the page, and we have. Today, we start the next chapter, begin the work of change, the mission of national renewal, and start to rebuild our country."
Following his defeat in the election, Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak formally submitted his resignation to King Charles III during their last meeting. In addition to Sunak's defeat, the Conservatives have lost the seats of the last four prime ministers. Liz Truss, Boris Johnson, Theresa May, David Cameron.
