South Africa’s top court on Friday reinstated a 24 year prison sentence for Henry Okah convicted of a series of terror attacks in Nigeria eight years ago. Okah was jailed in 2013 for masterminding a number of attacks, including twin bombings which killed 12 people in the Nigerian capital Abuja during Independence Day celebrations in 2010.
The European Union has reiterated its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Government in the fight against terrorism. In a statement in Abuja, the EU also condemned the abduction of young girls seeking to attend school in Yobe state, north east Nigeria. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Nigerians to hold President Muhammdu Buhari responsible for the attack and abduction of some schoolgirls from Government Girls Science and Technical School in Dapchi, Yobe state. The party in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan commiserated with the families of the victims assuring of its support to ensure that the girls were released.
The Yobe state Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam has lambasted the Nigerian Army for allegedly deceiving the State Government into believing that the some of the girls of the Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, Yobe state who were abducted by Boko Haram terrorist on Monday had been rescued.
Some of the schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents at Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi in Yobe have been rescued by the army.
Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, Director General to Yobe governor on Press affairs, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Wednesday.
“The Yobe State Government hereby informs the public that some of the girls at Government Girls Science and Technical College (GGSTC) whose school was attacked by Boko Haram terrorists last Monday have been rescued by gallant officers and men of the Nigerian Army from the terrorists who abducted them.
The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said it recovered a sophisticated rifle displayed for sale in Taraba state by a yet-to-be arrested gun-runner. The Army in a statement issued to newsmen by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, Director Army Public Relations said the rifle was recovered during a patrol operation by troops of 93 Battalion.
