A woman, Inaku Victoria Oko, has been convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment by Justice Olukayode A. Adeniyi of the High Court of the Federa Capital Territory, Abuja, for being in possession on fake medical report.

Oko was paraded before the court by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission and accused of procuring a fake medical report in the name of one Aniukwu Richard Chinonso, which was intended to enable him travel to India for medical care.

Unknown gunmen on Sunday night attacked the Medium Security Prison located in Tunga area of Minna, the Niger State Capital killing an officer, and setting some inmates free. The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Prison Service, Niger Command, DSP Rabiu Shuaibu who confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday morning, said the armed criminals attacked the prison and gained access after exchange of fire with armed prison’s officials.

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has began a manhunt for the abductors of three female students of Obong University, Obong Ntak, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of State. According to witnesses, assailants stormed the female hostel of the university in the early hours of Friday and kidnapped the students.

About 25 persons were on Thursday kidnapped along Birnin-Gwari-Funtua road. Sources said the assailants struck between Kiryoyi and Maganda villages of Birnin-Gwari local government area of Kaduna state. The suspected kidnappers reportedly stopped vehicles conveying passengers and ordered them into the bush.

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Lagos has upheld the ‘no case submission’ filed by a former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Patrick Akpobolokemi, over an alleged fraud of N2.6bn.

The three-man appeal court panel also discharged and freed Mr Akpobolokemi on all the 22counts and overruled the decision of Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court Lagos.

Justice Yargatta Nimpar, who read the lead judgment however held that other defendants who appealed the verdict alongside Akpobolokemi had a case to answer in relation to the charges.

The Police Command in Kebbi has arrested five persons for alleged diversion of a truck loaded with 132 veils of USAID mosquito nets meant for distribution in Bagudo Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Mustapha Suleiman, told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Friday that the suspects were intercepted in April in Jega Local Government Area while trying to divert the truck.
