Concern was raised by some indigenes of Anambra state living in Malaysia over growing cases of immorality by some women and ladies from the state in Malaysia. The group on Thursday, 8th August 2019 disclosed that the rate of increase in prostitution and trafficking by Anambra women is out-rightly, alarming. This was disclosed during a press conference in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
The leader of the group, Okwunwanne Mmaduka, under the aegis of Anambra State Welfare Association Malaysia (ASWAM), stated that the development had become a “huge concern”.
Mmaduka added that the group had planned advocacy visits to stakeholders in the state to let them know of the situation.
He emphasized that the group will be meeting with the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe and other monarchs, Governor Willie Obiano and other stakeholders in the state on how to stop the ugly trend.
Mmaduka further stated that the group receives over 20 complaints each week on the activities of Anambra sex workers in Malaysia, adding that many of the victims had lost their lives in the process.
Enumerating some of the interventions of the group, Mmaduka stated that the group has rescued some of the victims and sent them back to Nigeria, while some others have been sent to school in Malaysia by the group.
He lamented that the trend is giving Anambra indigenes and Nigeria as a whole, a bad name in that country.
