The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed about 27 of its officers for involving in fraudulent activities and other misconducts contrary to the standard operating procedures, SOP, of the agency. Although the anti graft did not give detail of names of the affected personnel’s, their dismissal followed the recommendation of the staff disciplinary committee of the agency.
The investigation report and the recommendation were ratified by the chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede.
Olukayode reaffirm his commitment of weeding out corrupt officers found wanting from the organisation calling on others that no officer is immune to disciplinary measures.
The announcement was made by the commission spokesperson, Dele Oyewale on behalf of the anti corruption seizer, saying the core values of the commission are sacrosanct and would always be held in optimal regard at all times.
The statement partly said, “Every modicum of allegation against any staff of the commission would always be investigated, including a trending $400,000 claim of a yet-to-be-identified supposed staff of the EFCC against a Sectional Head.”
He reiterated that there is no hiding place for fraudulent persons in the commission.
“The commission also wishes to alert the public of the sinister activities of impersonators and blackmailers using the name of its Executive Chairman to extort money from high-profile suspects being investigated by the EFCC,” He added.
Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Directorate, has inaugurated an Extractive Industry Fraud Section (EIFS) to crack down on the menace of illegal mining being perpetrated in Benue State and other areas under its jurisdiction.
The Zonal Commander, Dr. Anselem Ozioko, stated this while briefing the EFCC office in Makurdi, where he also disclosed that the commission had secured 10 convictions in its crackdown on illegal mining.
Ozioko noted the prevalence of illegal mining sites across Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Taraba states is alarming, saying that the new unit will ensure offenders face justice.
