The Lagos State Police Command yesterday arrested one suspected thug, identified as Friday Onu, after a viral video showed him physically assaulting a female commercial driver, Yetunde Amole, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos. The incident took place near the Oriental Hotel, Lagos on April 7, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m. Onu was caught attempting to steal Amole’s car battery. Amole courageously prevented the theft, resulting in the suspect brutally assaulting her. The suspect was arrested by officers of the Maroko Police Division after the incident and detained at the division.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin spokesperson of the command, gave the update on the viral video and stated that preparations for the suspect arraignment were underway when he suddenly felt sick.
“He was immediately transferred to Falomo Police Hospital, where he receives treatment under close supervision.
“The suspect will be charged to a court as soon as police medical professionals declare him fit for trial.
“The Command reinstates its commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of all residents and urges the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement authorities.
“We also commend Ms Amole for her bravery and assure her and all victims of crime that their cases will be thoroughly pursued to ensure justice prevails in all cases.”
