Following the murder of a lecturer of the Physical and Health Education Department at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Abdulkadir Kamal, the Borno State Police Command said it has arrested eight persons in connection to the crime. The Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daso Kenneth, who made the above statement on Tuesday said the suspects were arrested following a report filed by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the university, that a dead body was found in the school on Sunday. The police from Gwange Division of the command were deployed to the scene of the incident and subsequently arrested the said suspects while an investigation has been activated to unravel the cause of the killing as well as other relevant details.
It was gathered that the lecturer was stabbed multiple times with knives and daggers, leaving him in a pool of blood before he died.
Although the police refrained from disclosing if those arrested were students, it is speculated that the lecturer was murdered based on his position as the examination officer for the department.
The vehicle of the late lecturer was missing from the scene of the incident, and it was suspected to have been whisked away by the assailants.
Kenneth, while stressing that the police would ensure to bring the perpetrators of the act to justice, urged residents of the state and the university community to go about their daily activities without panic.
“There are tensions because of the incident, but the Commissioner of Police hereby urges members of the public and the university community to remain calm and go about their activity without fear.
“The command will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” he said.
