The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has commenced applications for the second phase of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme created to strengthen skills acquisition and employment.
This was disclosed on Monday by the minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, stating, “Today marks the opening of applications for the second cohort of our National TVET Programme, a key step in advancing human capital development.
“Last year, over 1.3 million Nigerians applied, a powerful reminder of the growing demand for practical skills and the impact they can have on people’s lives and our economy.
“We are calling on every Nigerian, young or old, who has a dream, a vision for a better life, and a hardworking spirit to sign up. With TVET, you can build your own future.”
The programme has two training tracks, which are a six-month short-term certificate program for beginners and a one-year vocational education and innovation track for people with prior learning or informal experience.
Entry requirements include a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN), and participants’ tuition will be funded by the FGN, with other benefits such as monthly stipends, hands-on training, and a nationally acknowledged certification upon completion of the programme.
According to the Minister, “Training will cover a wide range of high-demand sectors, including construction, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), automotive technology, creative media, agriculture, fashion and garment production, cosmetology, tourism and hospitality, catering services, and leather works, among others.”
