The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has recognized several distinguished Nigerians for their exceptional contributions to God, the Church, and humanity. The recognition took place on Thursday in Abuja during a public lecture and award ceremony organized by the FCT chapter of CAN.
Among those honored were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume; the immediate past Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd); and the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Center, Dr. Paul Enenche. Others included Comfort Chigbue, National Director of Legal and Public Affairs at CAN; Mr. Oronsaye Osagiede; several lawmakers; and prominent Christian leaders. Themed “The Response of the Church to the Menace of Insecurity in the Country,” the event also featured the unveiling of plans for a new CAN FCT Secretariat.
In his keynote address, FCT CAN Chairman Rev. Timothy Amakom described the gathering as “a celebration of service and a call to nation-building. Today is significant, not only because we are honoring men and women who have served God and humanity faithfully, but also because we are taking a bold step toward establishing a lasting legacy."
Amakom expressed appreciation to government officials, church leaders, and Christian professionals for their consistent support of CAN’s mission in the FCT. He noted that the proposed Secretariat would function as a center for leadership development, advocacy, and interdenominational cooperation.
“Picture a place where Christian leaders strategize on national matters, where young believers are trained in leadership and faith, and where research, advocacy, and prayer come together to shape policies and culture,” he explained. “That is the vision for our Secretariat, a beacon of truth, unity, and transformation.”
Speaking on behalf of the award recipients, Dr. Enenche thanked CAN for the honor, saying, “As we are appreciated here on earth, may we also be found worthy of appreciation before our Maker.”
The ceremony was attended by top government officials, church leaders, industry figures, and representatives from various Christian denominations across the FCT.
