The Federal Government (FG) has commenced the payment of withheld salaries of public university lecturers under the aegis the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Multiple sources within the academic sector confirmed the development on Monday, stating that several members of the Union have began receiving credit alerts of 2 months withheld salary out of the outstanding 8 months.
The Federal Government under the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari insisted that the lecturers would not receive salaries for the 8 months they were on strike, citing the “no work, no pay” policy.
However, in October 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the release of 4 out of the 8 months’ salaries of members of the Union.
More details later.
