The Department of State Services (DSS) has released and compensated a carpenter, Mustapha Marwana, the sum of N3 million, who was arrested over alleged links to the Ansaru terrorist group.
According to reports, Marwana was released on the orders of the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Ajayi, following the investigation which cleared him of allegations associating him to terrorist activities and the abduction of school pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area (LGA) of Oyo State.
The Katsina-born artisan was then released to his lawyer, Oghene Forgive.
According to reliable sources, Mustapha expressed his appreciation to Mr Ajayi for his compassion for releasing and compensating him; furthermore, his lawyer also thanked the DG DSS for his kindness and dedication to establishing the innocence of his client.
Experts have noted that the compensation of several wrongfully arrested individuals by the current DG of the intelligence agency is highly commendable and should be replicated by other security agencies.
Recall that Ajayi approved a N20 million compensation for a Sokoto-based businessman, who was accidentally shot and sustained injuries during a raid in Jos in 2016.
Also, in November 2025, Kenneth Nwafor was released and rewarded with a compensation of N5 million as a result of clearing his membership of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
