Passengers on an Air Peace flight were left stuck at the airport on Tuesday when the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) halted airline operations in Lagos. The gate to the Zulu terminal was locked. It began at around five in the morning. Due to the disturbance, passengers on the affected Air Peace aircraft, which was supposed to depart Lagos at 6:30 am, were unable to take off. Passengers were irritated by the development, and others bemoaned the uncertainty of their travel arrangements.
One of the passengers said, “The delay had disrupted his schedule," expressing concern that he could not tell when the flight would eventually depart. Another passenger said she had arrived at the airport early for the 6:30 am flight but was left stranded without clear information on when operations would resume.
It was gathered that a staff member of Air Peace confirmed the incident. “Yes, it’s true,” the staff member said but declined to provide the reason for the protest. However, an operator familiar with the issue stated that the “protest was intended to enforce Air Peace employees' right to join the union."
At the time this report was filed, calls to Air Peace's customer service number were unreachable; therefore, attempts to contact the company through that line were futile. Travel at the airport has been hampered by the NLC protest, and impacted travelers are waiting for more details.
