Aggrieved members of National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have suspended their strike. The suspension was announced on Thursday after a closed door meeting by the leadership of the Association. The Chairman of NARD, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Segun Olaopa announced the suspension in a chat with journalists.
He stated that the industrial action was suspended following increasing plea from the public that the doctors should give the Federal Government more time to address other demands.
According to him, “the decision was reached following appeals from the public that the doctors should give the federal government more time to meet their demands.” He added that the leadership of NARD has resolved to hold a crucial meeting within two weeks to appraise efforts by the government to meet agreements reached during recent negotiations.
Recall that on September 4, NARD declared indefinite strike over lingering industrial dispute with the Federal Government. The development crippled health care services across the country. Meanwhile, the doctors are billed to resume at their various duty posts on Friday.
