World Boxing heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, is set to visit Nigeria on a three-day tour in August, during which he would pay courtesy calls on Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja, and the governors of Lagos and Ogun states.

Nigerian Born World Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua has concluded plans to resume training session in August, preparatory for a possible title defence in December this year. The planned resumption of training is coming despite uncertainty surrounding the emergence of an opponent for the title defence.

The long-rumoured bout between undefeated American boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor is halfway to becoming a reality after the Irish fighter signed a deal for the contest.

President Bola Tinubu has awarded Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with $100,000 for each player, while $50,000 for each member of the 11-man coaching and technical crew. All team members and staff were also awarded with a 3-bedroom flat at the Renewed Hope Estate as well as the conferment of the prestigious national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

Nigeria’s D’Tigress, led by coach Rena Wakama, won their fifth consecutive title in the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title following their 78-64 victory over Mali during the final of the competition, which was held on Sunday, 3rd August, 2024, at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
