The House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the alleged operations of the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has declared the appointment letter presented by Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the council's Director-General, as fake. Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, made the disclosure on Wednesday during the continuation of the investigative hearing in Abuja. He said findings presented before the panel showed that the documents submitted by Adeyemi lacked authenticity.
According to Gagdi, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who appeared before the committee for a second time, also confirmed that the appointment documents presented by Adeyemi were not genuine.
“It was established that the so-called letter of appointment was fake, confirmed by different agencies, and the Act presented to the Head of Service was equally fake, forged by the DG; it was established,” the lawmaker said.
Walson-Jack attended the hearing in compliance with the committee's summons to provide her final submission on the matter. Also present were Deputy Commissioner of Police Olufemi Akinola and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, representing the Inspector-General of Police.
As of the time the hearing was ongoing, Adeyemi had yet to appear before the committee despite being at the centre of the investigation.
The committee had earlier, during Monday's sitting, described the creation and activities of the purported council as a serious violation of due process. It subsequently directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeyemi before the panel within 48 hours to answer questions surrounding the council's establishment and operations.
