FIFA has nominated Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, among the top contenders for the 2025 Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper Award, recognizing her alongside other leading goalkeepers in women’s football.
On Thursday, November 6, 2025, FIFA announced the commencement of voting for the best FIFA football awards, 2025, in some categories, including best players, coaches, and goalkeepers of the year.
Other nominees contending for the award in the same category as the 24-year-old Nnadozie are: Ann-Katrin Berger (Germany), Cata Coll (Spain), Christiane Endler (Chile), Hannah Hampton (England), Anna Moorhouse (England), and Phallon Tullis-Joyce (USA).
Nnadozie, who recently moved from Paris FC to Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Women’s league, has been an outstanding and consistent performer on the pitch both for her club and country, earning her widespread recognition as one of the top goalkeepers in the female category.
Since the award’s inception in 2017, no African goalkeeper—male or female—has managed to clinch the title. However, Nnadozie’s victory is anticipated to finally break this long-standing jinx in African football history.
The voting groups comprise national team coaches, captains, specialist journalists, and fans, which carries an equal 25% weighting in determining the final winner. Nnadozie’s achievement highlights Nigeria’s enduring legacy of nurturing world-class footballers. She carries on the path paved by Asisat Oshoala, a multiple nominee for The Best FIFA Women’s Player award, underscoring the rising influence of African players on the global football scene.
Voting for the FIFA Best Awards concludes on November 28, 2025, and the winners will be honored at a gala ceremony early next year—an occasion that could mark a historic milestone for Nnadozie and African women’s football.
