The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, had on Wednesday frown at some group of people who were alleged to engage in selling their National Identity Number (NIN).
The anti-graft threatened that those who participate in the ugly venture would be charged for fraud if arrested, therefore advised members of the public to desist from it.
The disclosure was made by the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwajaren, calling on good Nigerians to report anyone they found or suspected to be engaging in the act.
His statement partly reads; “The EFCC wishes to alert Nigerians that it is not only illegal to sell their NIN, but they also stand the risk of vicarious liability for any act of criminality linked to their NIN.
Uwajaren added, “In other words, they risk arrest and prosecution for any act of criminality linked to their NIN whether or not they are directly responsible for such crimes,”
Recall the top management of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) had warned their staff and collaborators that are engaging in extorting of NIN applicants would face sanction.
The agency warned that those who are found culpable risk a jail term of seven years.
