On November 9, 2025, DCT Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit officers, working with the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups, began a special patrol that covered churches and places of worship in border communities and forested areas that connect Bwari with Kaduna State, Bwari with Niger State, and Gwagwalada with Niger State.
The operation was carried out in accordance with orders from CP Miller Dantawaye, the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, to guarantee the security of places of worship and citizens throughout the FCT during the ember months.
According to SP Josephine Adeh, the command's spokesman, "the operation, which lasted from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., was intended to strengthen community confidence, deter criminal elements, and ensure that worshippers can conduct their religious activities without fear."
She saw that church leaders in the affected areas were involved and reassured by the CP's dedication to protecting themselves and their congregations. Proactive security measures, such as reducing late-night activities, keeping in regular communication with security services, and reporting unusual movements or individuals, were also recommended to them.
As part of intelligence-led preventive measures, identified access channels that criminal elements frequently employ have been restricted. The forest areas' strategic security installations are still operational and constantly monitored, according to SP Adeh.
The FCT Police Command urged citizens to cooperate with security forces and maintain vigilance, emphasizing that safety is a shared responsibility.
