A fierce clash between the factions of Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) has resulted in the death of more than 50 fighters at Toumbun Gini, an island community in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to sources, ISWAP mobilized fighters on Sunday in a bid to reclaim the island located in the Lake Chad region.
But reports suggest that the leadership of Boko Haram was informed about the attack; therefore, a counter-ambush was set up.
The source said that upon arriving, ISWAP fighters were overpowered within minutes by Boko Haram, with over 50 ISWAP combatants killed and seven of their boats seized.
