Three suspected members of the kidnap gang allegedly responsible for the August 2, 2026, attack on St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Inoyi-Affa, in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, have been arrested by security agencies.
The kidnap suspects were arrested following a joint intelligence-led operation of security agencies involving the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army (NA), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Enugu State Forest Guard, as well as other security personnel.
According to reports, four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, 133 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition,US$1,000 and N785,900 were recovered from the suspects while one suspected kidnapper was reportedly eliminated during a gun battle with security forces.
Two out of the three victims kidnapped during the August 2 attack, Seminarian Lawrence Igbo and Emmanuel Onwudi, regained their freedom during the operation and identified the arrested suspects as their kidnappers.
