Armed robbers have attacked a bullion van transporting money to a bank at Idi-Ape in Ibadan North East Local Government area of Oyo state. The robbers allegedly hijacked the van shortly after it left one of the banks in Ibadan, capital city of Oyo. The gunmen reportedly shot sporadically, scaring passers-by while the operation lasted. Soldiers have been drafted to the scene to restore order.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Ngozi Onadeko, has denied reports that two police officers were shot dead during the robbery.
Onadeko confirmed that one of the robbers was killed in a gun duel and carried away. The commissioner confirmed this while speaking with newsmen at the scene of the incident.
She also said the two police officers who were shot have been taken to the hospital for medical attention after sustaining injuries on their legs. She added that investigation is still ongoing towards assuring that the perpetrator would be brought to book.
Earlier reports alleged that two lifeless bodies in police uniform were laying on the ground at the scene of the robbery.
