Activist Omoyele Sowore was reportedly re-arrested by the Nigerian Police on Friday, shortly after a Kuje Magistrate Court granted him bail. Sources say the re-arrest happened while Sowore’s lawyers were completing his bail formalities alongside 13 others detained during the recent #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest.
The operation was led by CSP Ilyasu Barau, head of the Anti-Vice unit under the FCT Command’s DC-CID, who claimed Sowore resisted arrest and insisted on seeing a valid remand order.
Earlier, Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id had approved bail for Sowore, Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and 11 others.
All the defendants are charged with unlawful assembly and breach of public peace.
