President Bola Tinubu has commended the rescue of more than 308 kidnapped victims abducted across several communities in Kwara and Niger States.
This was made known by in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stating it was coordinated and intelligence-led operation involving the Office of the National Adviser (ONSA), Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Service (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
He noted that it was "the largest rescue operation ever carried out", adding that "the successful execution of this intelligence-led operation demonstrates the growing efficiency and collaboration among our security services. I commend our gallant men and women in uniform for their bravery and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigerian lives.”
According to reports, the abductees were rescued from the Kainji Lake National Park in Niger State and are currently receiving medical treatment and psychological assessment.
Onanuga stated that those freed were 163 residents abducted during an attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kwara state but did not disclose the communities in Niger State from which the remaining 145 victims were rescued.
