President Bola Tinubu has stated that his administration cannot be accused of shielding any individual or group from facing legal consequences due to political ties, nor of obstructing crime investigations or prosecutions. He emphasized that his government neither harbors laws that protect wrongdoers nor engages in concealing anyone’s involvement in criminal activities.
Tinubu expressed confidence that a corruption-free Nigeria is achievable if citizens commit to integrity and doing what is right within their various spheres of influence. He also urged the judiciary to remain resolute, impartial, and incorruptible in the pursuit of justice.
His remarks come in the wake of the #ReleaseNnamdiKanuNow protest, led by activist Omoyele Sowore, which seeks to pressure the federal government to free Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently standing trial for terrorism-related charges.
Kanu, through his militia group, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), has been accused of inciting violence that has led to killings and destruction across several southeastern states under the guise of agitating for the secession of Biafra.
